RVC and LBIC Appoint Graham Hewson to New Joint Leadership Role

Graham Hewson has been appointed as Chief Business Officer of the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) and Chief Executive Officer of the London Bioscience Innovation Centre (LBIC).

The Chief Business Officer role at the RVC has been created to strengthen the RVC’s commercial impact by helping to take the RVC’s research into industry and supporting the growth of bioscience businesses that draw on its facilities and expertise. There are many synergies between this role and that of the Chief Executive Officer at LBIC, whose role is to significantly build and support the life sciences innovation ecosystem within its estate and far beyond

Co-located at the RVC’s Camden campus, LBIC was founded in 2000 as London’s first dedicated bio-incubator and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the RVC. It sits within the Knowledge Quarter, the cluster of research and scientific organisations around King’s Cross, and provides laboratory space and support to more than 60 companies at different stages of growth, from start-ups and university spinouts to multinational organisations. In April 2025, it opened LBIC: Apex, a scale-up facility for growing life science companies. Graham’s appointment comes at the start of the next phase for LBIC, as it builds on this success and strengthens the links between its companies and the broader ecosystem, which includes the RVC’s own researchers and facilities.

In his new role, Graham will provide strategic leadership across both organisations, with responsibility for commercial growth, innovation and knowledge exchange. He will also set LBIC’s future strategy, lead its engagement with the life sciences sector, support entrepreneurs and high-growth businesses and identify opportunities for expansion.

Graham has more than 20 years’ experience building and running incubation and laboratory environments. At Imperial College London, he played a leading role in establishing the White City Incubator as one of the UK’s most successful life sciences innovation hubs, where he converted “somewhere people turn up to work” into an “innovation community”. His work there also included developing shared laboratory facilities, creating founder support programmes that have helped companies secure more than £60 million in investment and building partnerships with industry and venture accelerators. Drawing on extensive experience in company creation, incubation management and the curation of grow-on space, Graham has developed an unrivalled understanding of the support, infrastructure and networks that early-stage companies need to succeed and grow sustainably, which ideally suits him to this new combined role. Across his career, Graham has led major laboratory capital projects and supported the growth of more than 30 high-potential companies. He has received several industry awards, been a Director of UKSPA (the UK Science Park Association) and is the current Chair of its London and South East members’ group.

Graham Hewson, CEO of LBIC and Chief Business Officer at the RVC, said:

"I am thrilled to be joining the Royal Veterinary College and London BioScience Innovation Centre. Its mix of world-class research, innovation, and entrepreneurship creates an environment for founders to succeed. I am looking forward to working with the team and helping LBIC to continue to establish itself as the place to grow and scale life science startups."

Professor Stuart Reid CBE, President & Principal of the RVC, said:

“I am delighted to welcome Graham to LBIC and the RVC and to be working with him to promote and develop our commercial scientific portfolio. Graham brings a wealth of experience to the table and I have every confidence that innovation, enterprise and other business focused activities will flourish under his leadership. His role, as both CEO of LBIC and Chief Business Officer for the RVC, will be pivotal in ensuring synergies are maximised, and our contributions to the broader bioscience community maintain us as a key player in the sector.”
